1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how echobot.dev ("we," "us" or "our") handles information when you use the FB Video Downloader browser extension, website, extension account, subscription and related support services (together, the "Service").
Important: Downloaded Facebook video files are retrieved from Facebook-hosted sources and sent to Chrome's download manager. We do not upload those downloaded video files to echobot.dev as part of the download workflow.
FB Video Downloader is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or associated with Meta Platforms, Inc. or Facebook.
2. Information We Handle
Extension account information
If you create or use an extension account, we may process:
- Your email address for account creation, authentication, support and account communication
- Your display name and avatar if you choose to provide them
- An authentication token stored in browser local storage to keep you signed in
- Your plan, subscription status, billing dates and subscription-management links
Installation and usage information
The Service may create an anonymous installation identifier and record basic installation information so we can understand active installations and operate the Service. The browser may also store a daily Free-plan download counter and current settings locally.
We do not maintain a download-history feature. The extension does not keep a server-side list of the Facebook videos you download as part of the normal download workflow.
Settings and preferences
The extension stores user-selected preferences in browser storage, including folder and filename templates, request delay, batch pagination limits and automatic scrolling limits. Cached plan information and remote configuration may also be stored so the interface remains usable when a request is temporarily unavailable.
Support and feedback
If you contact us or submit feedback, we process the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message, browser or extension version and troubleshooting details. Please do not send Facebook passwords, private credentials or sensitive video content.
3. Facebook Page and Media Information
To provide its single and batch video-download functionality, the extension processes information visible or available to your active Facebook browser session. Depending on the page and video, this can include:
- Facebook page URLs and page type, such as Feed, profile, group, Page, Search, Watch or Reels
- Video identifiers, titles, thumbnails, duration and available media-source URLs
- Facebook page elements used to determine whether a video is playable and supported
- Facebook GraphQL request metadata such as operation names, cursor information and request fields needed to continue user-initiated media pagination
- Temporary video and audio URLs used for the download selected by the user
The extension only works with content available to the current Facebook browser session. It does not provide access to content that the user cannot otherwise view.
GraphQL request context
The webRequest permission observes
metadata from Facebook GraphQL requests already made by the active tab. The extension does not block,
modify or redirect those Facebook requests.
Captured tab context is bounded, stored in browser session storage when supported and removed when the corresponding tab closes. It is used to identify current media-pagination operations and is not sent to the PocketBase account service.
4. Downloads and Local Media Processing
Direct downloads
For direct Facebook video sources, the extension sends the selected media URL to Chrome's built-in download manager and applies the configured folder and filename.
DASH video and audio merging
Facebook may provide higher-quality video and audio as separate DASH streams. In that case, the extension creates a temporary offscreen browser document, downloads both streams, combines them locally with its bundled FFmpeg-compatible media engine and sends the merged MP4 to Chrome Downloads.
The worker, temporary Blob URL and offscreen document are released after processing completes or fails. Combined media may be held temporarily in browser memory during the merge.
What is not uploaded
- Downloaded Facebook video files are not uploaded to echobot.dev
- Separate DASH video and audio files are not sent to echobot.dev for merging
- Your Facebook password is not collected or sent to echobot.dev
5. Why We Process Information
We process the information described above to:
- Provide individual and batch Facebook video downloads requested by the user
- Select available video sources and organize saved files
- Authenticate extension accounts and keep users signed in
- Apply Free and Pro plan access and show subscription status
- Process checkout events and provide subscription-management links
- Load remote extension configuration and maintain compatibility
- Respond to support requests, investigate problems and prevent abuse
- Maintain anonymous installation statistics and Service reliability
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service
6. Service Providers and External Services
The Service interacts with the following categories of third parties:
- Facebook and Facebook CDN: provide the pages, metadata, video, audio and thumbnail resources selected by the user.
- Chrome or another compatible browser: provides extension storage, downloads, session storage and offscreen processing capabilities.
- echobot.dev and PocketBase: provide extension account authentication, remote configuration, plan status, subscription-management and operational services.
- Payment providers: handle checkout and payment information for Pro subscriptions. We do not store full payment-card details.
- Google Forms or email providers: may process information you submit through feedback or support channels.
These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. Review their policies before providing information directly to them.
7. Browser Extension Permissions
storage
Stores settings, account-session state, daily Free-plan usage, cached plan/configuration data, installation information and temporary Facebook request context.
downloads
Sends a user-selected direct or locally merged MP4 file to the browser's download manager using the configured folder and filename.
offscreen
Creates a temporary browser document for locally combining separate Facebook DASH video and audio tracks when required.
webRequest
Observes Facebook GraphQL request metadata made by the active tab so a user-initiated batch can recognize supported pagination operations. Requests are not blocked or modified.
Host access
Access to Facebook is required for page detection, video-source discovery and in-page controls. Access to Facebook CDN hosts is required to retrieve selected media resources. Access to echobot.dev is required for extension accounts, configuration, plans, checkout and support-related services.
8. Data Retention and Your Choices
Browser settings and authentication state remain in browser storage until you change the settings, sign out, clear extension data or uninstall the extension. Session-scoped Facebook request context is removed when its tab closes where supported.
Account and subscription records are retained for as long as needed to provide the Service, meet accounting and legal requirements, resolve disputes and prevent fraud. Support messages are retained as reasonably necessary to respond and maintain relevant records.
You can:
- Change or reset download settings inside the extension
- Sign out to remove the local extension account session
- Clear extension storage through your browser
- Uninstall the extension to stop future browser-side processing
- Cancel a Pro subscription using the subscription-management tools provided in the extension
- Contact us to request access, correction or deletion of eligible account information, subject to legal exceptions
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect account and service information. However, no browser extension, transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. You are responsible for securing your browser profile, device, Facebook session and extension account credentials.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Service. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review the request.
11. International Use
Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live, depending on the location of our infrastructure and service providers. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for applicable transfers.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the Service, legal requirements or data practices change. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the "Last updated" date. Material changes may also be communicated through the Service where appropriate.
